Admissions & School Day

Admissions

Highfurlong School is a maintained special school in Blackpool, providing education for pupils aged 2-19 with a wide range of special educational needs.

Our pupils have special educational needs including complex medical conditions; physical disabilities; profound and multiple learning difficulties (including multi-sensory impairment and visual/hearing impairment); speech, language and communication difficulties; moderate learning difficulties and autistic spectrum disorders.   Pupils attending the school all have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) or are in the assessment process for one.

Pupils follow a personalised curriculum and have an Personal Learning Plan (PLP).   A statutory review of the EHCP is held annually, where the child’s progress is discussed with parents and other professionals and targets set for the following year.

Highfurlong School’s admissions are managed through the Local Authority (LA) Blackpool Council.

Admission to the school is by referral from Blackpool Council. Parents are encouraged to visit the school to inform their choice; to arrange a visit of interest or non-preferential visit. Please contact Blackpool Council’s SEND Team or visit their website Blackpool Local Offer.  Please note we are unable to arrange visits to school without a referral from Blackpool Council.
