Modern Foreign Languages
The subject of Modern Foreign Languages is a multi sensory experience at Highfurlong. The learning of an additional language enhances communication skills and knowledge of other cultures in the world. We believe that learning a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for all pupils. The learning of a foreign language provides a medium for cross‐curricular links and for reinforcement of knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects. Learning another language raises awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world and introduces an international dimension to pupils’ learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and those of others.Children enjoy taking an active part in language lessons. They join in with singing, reciting rhymes and poems, and respond to stories. They create mimes, sketches and role-play, imitating accurate intonation and pronunciation. They play games, take turns, take the role of the teacher and experiment creatively with language.
